New ProductsNEW HIGH-PERFORMANCE GLS TPE OFFERS PHTHALATE-FREE, PLASTICIZER-FREE PACKAGING FORMULATIONSGLS is pleased to announce a new phthalate-free TPE in its growing specialty VERSAFLEX™ TPE product line. The new product, called VERSAFLEX CL E95 TPE, addresses recent regulations limiting the use of phthalate-based plasticizers in certain applications, and recent market demands for low extractable TPEs. It also offers water-clarity and sterilization capability. New VERSAFLEX CL E95 is well suited for a range of packaging applications, including FDA-compliant food packaging, drug storage and delivery systems, bottles, containers, cosmetic applications, and infant care products. Other applications include a variety of extruded tubing and films, blow-molded bags, and face masks. VERSAFLEX CL E95 TPE offers a unique balance of superior clarity, low hardness, and excellent flexibility at low temperatures as compared to competitive products. The new grade is stable under gamma and autoclave sterilization. Leveraging its well-known customization capabilities, GLS can tailor this technology suite to provide a variety of different hardnesses, custom colors, and flow properties. Following are the typical physical properties of this new material:
Versaflex CL E Series Product Sheet [pdf] GLS offers a full line of products that offer full FDA clearance including use in fatty and non-fatty food applicationsGLS is pleased to announce that the entire line of DYNAFLEX® G2700 Series thermoplastic elastomer compounds have new FDA clearance for use in direct fatty food contact applications. The G2700 series, made with Kraton® polymers, has always had FDA approval for use in non-fatty food applications. This exciting change adds a wider array of materials available for this use to the custom compounds GLS already offers to meet the FDA requirements. The primary benefit from the certification is that customers can use a single family of GLS TPE compounds for all of their food packaging applications. No other competitive compounds can make these claims for a full line of grades, according to GLS sources. Previously, SEBS products from GLS were cleared for use in direct food contact applications for non-fatty foods. Now the clearance covers fatty foods as well. Further, the clearance carries no restrictions for typical adhesive packaging use, food storage, food type or high temperature filling applications. DYNAFLEX G2700 Series of thermoplastic elastomer compounds are easy processing TPEs that are designed for injection molding and extrusion applications that require FDA compliance. Available in a hardness range from 28 to 84 Shore A, they feature a soft touch, rubbery feel, excellent colorability, good melt stability, high flow for long, thin-walled parts, good adhesion to polypropylene and good ozone and UV resistance. Depending on the grade, they are available in either translucent or clear pellets. As with many of the products offered by GLS, drying is not required. GLS Corporation offers new value-oriented TPE series with smooth, matte finish for long/thin or detailed parts
GLS Corp. has introduced a new, value-oriented, easy flowing TPE. Its molding and product end-use benefits include superior surface aesthetics, exceptional colorability and excellent flow for long, thin flow parts. The new TPE is being marketed as VERSAFLEX ® 9500 Series. With its exceptional flow characteristics, VERSAFLEX 9500 Series TPEs are ideally suited for long/thin or detailed part geometries such as hand and power tools, lawn and garden products, kitchen tools, office products and sports and leisure equipment, among others. Of benefit to molders, the new VERSAFLEX 9500 Series TPE provides a smooth, matte finish with minimal surface flaws, plus offers isotropic shrinkage to reduce warpage. This new TPE grade does not require drying and has been formulated to have a wide processing window. Additionally, cost savings can be achieved as its excellent colorability means less color concentrate is required in order to achieve white or pastel colors. This series offers excellent overmolding adhesion to polypropylene. Available in pellet form in either natural or black, the new TPE is available in Shore A hardness grades of 45, 55 and 70.
